Happy Birthday! The Marketing Strategy

Today was my birthday! And I’m not just posting so a few more people will wish me a happy birthday; I wanted to use the tool of date leveraging (more on that another time) to talk a little bit about how companies used my birthday to market to me.
When I checked my email today, I had emails from Starbucks, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, and others. All of them were similar: Happy Birthday! Here’s a discount!
While I didn’t do any shopping today, I often do to make sure that I get the discounts offered on birthdays. And think about it yourself: how many times over the years have you looked for "free birthday deals" and visited places found in blog posts?
Birthdays are often a way of getting people through the door, typically resulting in them spending money.
But you can market more than just customers' birthdays - you can market your own!
From "Join the Celebration" emails to discounts to celebrate your special day, you can market your birthday the same way you would a holiday.
People want to see the person behind the screen, and marketing your birthday gives your customers and potential customers a glimpse into your life.
